Biography

I am the Director of Communications at Moredun Research Institute and have a strong interest in science communication, knowledge exchange and education. I have also retained my involvement in research focusing on the infectious diseases of livestock and currently lead a group at Moredun, looking at developing solutions to control diseases caused by protozoan parasites. You can find out more about my research activities here

I was awarded an MBE in the 2015 New Year’s Honours for services to scientific research and science communication. I also hold Honorary Professorships from Heriot Watt University, University of Edinburgh and University of Glasgow. I received an award for outstanding contribution to knowledge exchange at the prestigious Scottish Knowledge Exchange Awards in February 2017, and was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh in 2017.

I played a leading role in the establishment of the Centre for Knowledge Exchange and Impact, the precursor to SEFARI Gateway, which coordinates and develops knowledge exchange and engagement across the SEFARI collective.
